Default Prophecies or Factions

For a new player planning to buy one or the other but not both, what would you recommend? or does it really make a difference? Thank you for your help

The two games are very different, both in learning curve and in available options. In the end, just pick the one that sounds better to you.

Prophecies is more newbie friendly, as it takes a long long time before you get up to any kind of real challenge. There's also quests that give skills as part of the rewards, which doesn't happen in Factions. But, it's also the older of the 2, and many have moved on to Factions. This makes some of the towns pretty empty, but not to the point where you can't find a group.

Factions is much harder on the whole, and for me that makes it a lot more fun. However, it gets really hard very quickly, so if you're not confident in your character or your build, the game will have a high tendency to own you. It's also a bit harder to get skills, but you do get a large amount of money as part of quest and mission rewards, so you'll be able to pick and choose what you want rather than looking for a specific quest. Factions also has 2 additional character classes to pick from with the Assassin and Ritualist, so character class options are better.

As far as skills go, there's some you get only in each game, so there's no difference there. PvP isn't a problem either, because all the games are linked for PvP play.

prophecies.

take your time to learn the game, then go on the Factions continent.
Personaly, when i group with people i ret to make sure that they have been thrugh prophecies, because they most likely know better what is goin on, and how to use their skill bar. and by the way, prophecies have MUCH better skills that are not availble to faction only characters.

so yeah, go to prophecies, learn the game, get all the GOOD skills, then go kick ass in PVP and Factions

it is such a game that 1 wrong move can kill 2-3 hours of team work, so if you dont know the game, you better learn it before going for the hard stuff

7 pages of what people preffered

i personally would buy factions because all the weapon skins people want are in factions, like storm bow use to worth alot more than its worth now because of the new faction skins.

The challenge of factions may be enjoyable, but to a noob they would simply get stuck on Zen Daijun and quit the game. THAT'S how well Anet thought it through.

I had the same question earlier today but after searching on various websites i would say prophecies. If you buy factions and dont have prophecies you will have limited skill options for the 6 original classes. Unless you want to be a assassin/ritualist or ritualist/assassin, i would buy prophecies and then buy factions.
